I knew one day I would see them live in the City of Angels...

The Pixies are my all-time favorite Alternative rock band. From "Where is my Mind" to "Debaser" to "The Happening" (Frank Black had an alien experience, so he decided to write about it), the Pixies have been there for me through it all: break-ups, back-stabbers, parties, growing up, & chilling out. I never get bored of their original pop/rock sound.

Coming up in November, the Pixies are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the album Doolittle (released in 1989). They'll be playing three shows @ the Hollywood Palladium, Nov 4th, 5th, & 6th. Yes, they added one more date, which gives me one extra day to make it to one of their shows (even though I only live 2 blocks away from the palladium). It'll sure sound better than listening to my neighbor sing. I'm in a state.

Summer is far from over!

Some people might think that it's near the end of August, so fall is right around the corner. But here in L.A., its as hot as ever! Fall who? The extremely hot weather we've been having over the last few weeks has made me very happy that my summer wardrobe is really getting more bang for the buck! I've recently pulled a basic that I'm very excited about, my Celebrity Pink denim cuffed bottom shorts. They're a great fit (even for us girls who have CURVES), & they're a steal at only $24.00! Docs We Love: Roc Docs

So I stumbled upon this doc called "Do It For The Band: The Women of the Sunset Strip" on VH1 a few weeks ago while I was flipping through the channels. I love docs, pop culture, & especially love 80's rock! It was a TV dream come true! This doc gives you the good, the bad, & the ugly of the early glam metal scene on the Sunset Strip back in the day. The women in the doc are retired strippers, video girls, etc. who share their loyalty & devotion to the then un-famous rocker boys, who inevitably turned out to be some of the biggest names in rock to this day. Now this is loyalty (for those of you who are uptight, better "ear muff" it):

Their motto? "Do it for the band"!

The 7th Veil Strip club, where one of the women used to work, & where Guns N Roses used to hang out before they made it big. (I was like - hey, don't we drive past that strip club like almost every day)? Ah, the rich history of Sunset Strip!

Anyway, the artist known as M.I.A. was at the Grammy awards on Sunday looking very pregnant (I guess since Sunday was her due date, she should look very pregnant). M.I.A. wore a blue Manish Aurora dress with Christian Lacroix for Gola sneakers, then a sheer House of Holland dress (from the spring 2009 collection) for her performance. M.I.A. wears some crazy sh*t & doesn't care what anyone thinks. She's just a free spirit who's gonna wear what she wants, when she wants, how she wants. Plus, if you're 9 months preggers, & not only willing to show up at an awards show, but perform as well, than you're entitled to wear whatever the hell you want! As LL Cool J said about the ensembles: "She's an artist." 'Nuff said.

Who Is Angelyne? Why she's the Billboard Queen, of course! She has become a Hollywood icon known for purchasing billboards advertising herself. She says investors are responsible for funding her billboard ads. Angelyne began gaining local attention in the early 1980's when a series of billboards popped up around the city featuring her in various sexy poses. I give myself credit for being a pretty logical shopper, compared to a lot of other girls & women I know (who shall remain nameless)... It's fashion common sense that there are things that you should spurge on, & things that you should save on.

Sienna Miller on the set of "Interview"

A good rule of thumb is that you can splurge on timeless pieces that you can use for more than one season. Spend money on items like a crazy pair of boots that are hot, but not a trend (Sienna Miller on the set of "Interview"); a great bag; or denim - jeans today are high-end, so its good to choose a basic pair that you can splurge on & wear for a while (Rachel Bilson wearing citizens jeans).

Otherwise, good pieces to not spend a lot of cash on are more trendy pieces, stuff that you know is for fun or on a trend you know you won't be able to pull off next season. These heart-shaped sunglasses on Madonna are a great example of a trend that you know you def won't be getting away with for more than a season, but are fun for the moment.

Hey, I didn't say it was going to be all GOOD fashion! Check out Christina Aguilera on the red carpet at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards in Hollywood. Normally I love the fashion risks
Christina Aguilera takes but this was a bit ridiculous. Nice eyeliner, Xtina.

Here's who was voted worst-dressed at the VMA's...& here's my opinion: Pink's hair looks great, but yeah the dress is whack. Oh, & what a surprise, there's Rihanna looking tacky. I love Katy Perry, & just because this outfit would look like a joke on me, I think it suits her 40's-inspired swing style.

Lastly, here's Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas. The peas always look hot, especially miss Fergie-Ferg. The only thing I would ditch here is the big chain (ewww). But otherwise its hot.

It's Britney, Bitch

It was really great to see Britney on Sunday on the VMA's, looking gorgeous & well-adjusted (seen here wearing Versace with host Russel Brand). Although she didn't perform, she did an awesome job opening the show, accepting 3 awards: best female video, best pop video, & video of the year for "Piece of me" & generally holding it down.

Anyway it's pretty awful how Britney has been treated in the last year or two by the press & the public, but I'm just happy she's back, got it together, looking great & has a renewed focus. Yay Brit!

So, a couple weeks ago I was talking about See by Chloe bags... here's some more styles of what's becoming available. These ones range from $75 for the smaller canvas tote, $135 for the
oversized tote, & $395 for the Metallic Twill Crossbody Bag. I promise to stop talking about them now, & just go buy one.

Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton $52,500 "Limited Edition" bag

I recently watched the documentary Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton (it was on the list of free movies on my digital cable box), which profiled Marc Jacobs as he goes through the design process at the House of Louis Vuitton. Many collections, along with the bag seen at the top being carried by Beyoncé Knowles (looking embarrassed by the mere weight of the bag) was featured from concept to completion. These bags are so gross. As I watched this bag being conceptualized, I witnessed complete guess work by Marc, as he was surrounded by a team of yes-people agreeing with ideas that were clearly madness. There was no rhyme or reason to the concept - just holding every sample on the table up to one another, saying "let's try this", while the yes-team would gasp in amazement at the genius being created in front of their very eyes. & when it came time to stitch the bag together, there was so many layers that sewing machines would break, or after they were stitched together pieces would just start coming apart, because there was too much sh*t mashed together at once. Oh yeah, & the price was 52 k.

And I don't know what the f*ck is up with the second bag, either. Actually, yes I do. It's called madness.

First of all, doesn't anyone know that LV BAGS HAVE NO MEANING ANYMORE?? I admit, these bags should have been a classic fashion staple with high prestige. Until the whole world started to feel as though they are worthless without one. With everyone & their dog owing an authentic one, knock-off, or worse, those who get a real one, but can only afford a really teeny one that doesn't even fit any of their stuff, I seriously want to laugh in everyone's face who owns one of these brown dollar bags & acts like they are a star while carrying it. The world acts as if carrying one of these bags will make them somehow exist better. It's disgusting. Please don't mistake my frustration for jealousy. I spend a good amount on clothes & bags that I could have a few by now. But I don't want one.
Here's another example of terrible design. Daisy by Marc Jacobs has big plastic daisies stuck on the handle, which makes the bottle look really easy to open. Just be careful you don't cut yourself when trying to open up this b*tch.

So I received my August '08 issue of Teen Vogue in the mail a few days ago (thank goodness the dirty mail-stealing people who live in the basement didn't get a hold of it), & saw a picture of the cutest bag (page 98). What's this? I thought, looking closer to investigate.

Hallelujah! See by Chloe has launched a bag line! I've been a loyal Chloe bag carrier since 2005, & being the brand name-whore that I am, I have to admit that like a sucker, I've spent close to $2,000 for the two bags I currently own. The great thing about these bags is they are more colorful, casual (& affordable)!! than traditional Chloe bags.

Okay so all of the information I've tried to find about this line is strictly hearsay, so don't quote me on it. The bag line is geared to the 18-to-30 age group (Thank you. I can still get away with it for a good year before looking like a cougar with a bag that's too young for me). Apparently, these delicious bags won't be available until August, which I'm leaning towards believing, because I can't find them anywhere...yet. But I've also heard they would be available at the end of May, which I think is a shady lead, because no one can seem to find them. These photos were the only ones I could find, & these don't even show the best samples...the ones I'm actually excited for are colorful, with different textures, like coated cotton gabardine, nylon and plastics. Prices will start from around $75 to $470 for fabric bags to $500 to $700 for leather styles. They also make change purses & small leather goods that will sell for approximately $40 to $120.

Bad Attitude + Bad Fashion = Trainwreck!

Rihanna has a really arrogant attitude & a terrible fashion sense (well, calling it sense is pushing it, but anyway). My husband is a T.V. producer, & he was producing a concert in the Caribbean for a network here in the US. Now, if you know my husband, he is the most respectful & gentle person to everyone he meets. Anyway, He ran into Rihanna in a hotel elevator on his way to the concert, & no one else was in it, so he decided to ask here if she was ready for the show. She just stared ahead, blatantly ignoring him, as if she was too good to answer him. How rude. (He also mentioned her & her dancers were all acting like power-tripping a**es on the plane back to NYC).

Now, If your going to have a bad attitude, at least make sure you look good while you're doing it. Oh by the way, did you check out how bad her nails look? They just look way too long & thick. I don't mind gold, but long & thick? Yucky.

Call me shallow, ungrateful, whatever you want, but I prefer L.A. any day over NYC. I live just 20 minutes outside of Manhattan, & only go there when absolutely necessary. Don't get me wrong, it's convenient for shopping or whatever else you may need...but everything in L.A. is newer, the weather is sooo much better, the fashion is better (in my opinion), & the mindset is more laid back than in the rat-race of the city. How can you possibly be in a bad mood when you live in all that sunshine?? So my question is: what is all the hype about NYC? You can see lights, tall buildings, & bad fashion almost anywhere.
